Narromine Business Award categories

The Narromine Region Business Awards 2026 celebrate the depth, diversity and strength of our local business community.

With 15 award categories, we recognise excellence across a wide range of industries, business sizes and contributions — from emerging businesses and individual achievements to established operators driving innovation, leadership and community impact.

Whether it’s outstanding customer service, a thriving team culture, or a business making a meaningful difference in our region, these Awards are designed to shine a light on the people and businesses doing exceptional work.

Award categories and criteria

These awards will be judged according to the criteria by the independent judging panel.

  • The Best New Business Award recognises a start-up that has effectively driven growth and is able to demonstrate potential to achieve future success. 

    Entry criteria Entrants must demonstrate their commitment to being an outstanding start-up over the past 12 months. This category is open to businesses that have been trading for less than 24 months at the time of entry. 

    Award eligibility : This business has been trading for a period of less than two years and is not bankrupt or trading insolvent at the time of entry.  This business has not been purchased or acquired and is not part of a franchise.

  • The apprentice or Trainee of the year Award recognises a local apprentice or trainee that demonstrates a commitment to learning, has a great attitude, contributes to the workplace, is responsive to feedback and coaching and shows participation in community and industry engagement.  

    Entry Criteria:They must be currently employed as an apprentice or trainee in the Narromine Region and have an active training contract registered with NSW training Services. They must still be undertaking their apprenticeship at the time of the awards and they must work for a business located within the defined regional area. 


    Award eligibility: School based trainees and apprentices are eligible. This is not industry specific. There are no age restrictions.

  • Outstanding Employee  - self nominated or boss nomination

    The Employee of the year Award recognises an inspirational employee who has demonstrated a passion for their role and a commitment to their workplace and the community.


    Entry criteria Employers are required to highlight their employees’ commitment over the past 12 months to their workplace, the community, and to being an outstanding employee. To be eligible to enter this category, the employee must have been employed by their current employer for a minimum of 18 months at the time of entry. 


    Additional T&Cs In addition to the general T&Cs, the following apply to this category: - Should the entrant leave the organisation before the Regional or State Gala event, they will not be eligible to receive an award. The employee has been employed by their current employer for at least 18 months at the time of entry.

  • This award recognises a business that has implemented strategies and initiatives to create a stimulating and supportive workplace environment. 

    Entry criteria Entrants must demonstrate their achievements over the past 12 months across the key areas of employee recruitment, engagement, and retention. Category criteria are based on initiatives that have had a positive impact on both employees and the business. 

    Award eligibility : The business has been trading for a continuous period of two years or more and is not bankrupt or trading insolvent at the time of entry.

  • Excellence in Ag services and Supplies including Ag products, livestock / farming contractors, stock & station, grain trade, farm equipment / machinery, feedlots, shearers, drovers, pumps and irrigation.

  • Excellence in Transport and Automotive including trucking companies, bus companies, freight and distribution, taxis, mechanics, car sales, vehicle upholstery, tyre repairs, service stations, fuel supplies.

  • Excellence in Retail and Wholesale including butcher, supermarket, clothing, computers, electrical, hardware, gifts, homewares, steel / timber, spare parts, newsagents.

  • Excellence in Hospitality & Tourism: This award is open to all

    cafes, motels, caravan parks, restaurants, pubs, clubs, museums, galleries, catering, photography, sound & music including artists and musicians, library and aviation.

  • Excellence in Manufacturing, Trades and Construction; This award is open to all Builders, Carpenters, earthmoving, concreting, flooring, plumbing, fencing, roofing, painting, welding, and manufacturing businesses.

  • Excellence in Professional and Business Services: This award is open to all Health, veterinary, pharmacy, legal, financial, real estate, agronomy, funeral, postal, web design, marketing, banking, bookkeeping, insurance, hire companies.

  • Excellence in a home based or personal services; This award is open to hairdressers, beauty therapists, massage, wellness, photography, dressmaking, florist, firewood, cleaning, laundry, coaching, training, interior design, landscaping, home repairs, lawn mowing, childcare.

  • Services or facilities run by a volunteer committee eg aged care, preschool, community housing, galleries. 

    The Community run business award recognises an organisation that works to improve the social, cultural, or environmental wellbeing of the community.

     Entry criteria Entrants must demonstrate their commitment over the past 12 months to being an outstanding community organisation. This category is open to social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations that have been trading for a period of over 24 months at the time of entry. 

    Award eligibility 

    The organisation has been trading for a continuous period of two or more years and is not bankrupt or trading insolvent at the time of entry.

People’s Choice Awards

These awards will be judged by the public via a secure voting system (one vote per person).

  • Tradie of the Year - People’s choice. This award recognises a local tradesperson who consistently delivers outstanding workmanship, customer service and community spirit as voted by the people. This award celebrates the tradie who goes above and beyond for their customers and contributes positively to our community.

    Entry Criteria: Must hold appropriate trade qualifications /licences for their field.

  • Service with a smile - People’s choice award. This award recognises an individual who consistently delivers outstanding customer service with warmth, positivity and professionalism - creating memorable experiences for customers. 

    Entry Criteria: nominees must be customer facing and work in a role that involves direct interaction with customers or clients. They must be currently active and working in their role at the time of nomination.

  • Narromine Region’s Favourite business - Peoples choice award.This award celebrates a business that has captured the heart of the community. Voted by the people, this award recognises a business that consistently delivers outstanding products, services, and customer experience while positively contributing to the Narromine Region. This is a true community award. 

    Entry Criteria:The business must be actively operating at the time of nomination and voting

    It must hold appropriate licences and registrations.

Eligibility

To enter, businesses must:

  • Hold a valid ABN

  • Be actively trading for at least 24 months (excluding New Business category)

  • Operate within postcodes 2821, 2823, 2869 or demonstrate contribution to the region

  • Meet category-specific criteria

For individual awards, nominees must be currently employed at the time of judging.

Judges

Our Awards will be assessed by three independent judges, each bringing a wealth of experience, insight, and expertise to the table. These judges have a strong understanding of business, leadership, and community impact, ensuring that every nomination is evaluated fairly and thoughtfully. Their independent perspective guarantees credibility and integrity, recognising excellence across all industries and business sizes in the Narromine Region.
